Diabetes / Cystic Fibrosis Clinic
This clinic is co-ordinated by the Cystic Fibrosis team and supported by the Diabetes Specialist Team Inpatient or clinic follow up referrals can be made directly to the Diabetes Specialist Nurse. Clinics are held in the Cystic Fibrosis outpatients Ward 26 BHH on the first Thursday of every month.
Islet cell transplant Clinic
This is a regional service based at Heartlands hospital and runs jointly with the Islet Transplant team from Oxford and is led by Dr Ming Ming Teh. The clinics are once in two months and referral to this service is through Dr Teh.
Diabetes Neuropathy Service
This service was established recently with a view to develop diabetic neuropathy services in the region. This is led jointly by Prof Martin Stevens and Dr Abd Tahrani. Clinics are run every two weeks and there are facilities to perform autonomic nerve function testing for patients referred to these clinics. This service is unique for the region of West Midlands.
Weight Management Clinic
The Weight Management Clinic was set up in 2000 at Heartlands Hospital. This was in response to the increasing problem of obesity and the lack of provision both locally and nationally, and for research purposes. The clinic has developed a multidisciplinary approach and currently has input from a number of healthcare professionals including the following:
- Physicians
- Dieticians/Nutritionist
- Surgeon
- Psychiatrist
Specialist Lipid Clinics
Regional FH Clinic (familial hypercholesterolaemia) run by Dr Alan Jones and Dr Ateeq Syed. Clinics happen three times per week. It is also supported by an FH nurse to provide FH genotype testing and cascading of families at risk.
